Lucian Freud, l'Atélier @ Centre Pompidou, Paris.

Born in 1922 and now aged 88, Lucian Freud (a relative of Sigmund) makes up part of the "London School" along with Francis Bacon. 


An "idiosyncratic realist" Freud paints people like an actor acts a character, he wants to portray them as they really are. This lends itself to a kind of oops-I-just-walked-in-on-something-I-shouldn't-have quality in his work. Awkward perspective and fleshy brushstrokes form the basis of an artistic relationship between painter and, most often nude, subject.
