Words for Weddings

“Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don't blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being "in love", which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.”

Q&A with: Upstyl & Son

I recently came across this wonderful interiors brand at a local shop, Ruby & Norm, on Lee High Road in London. Blending antique inspired furniture with modern upstyling techniques, Alexandra Stylianidis Mathie the founder has a great eye for colour and design.

We asked Alexandra about wedding styling and how you can incorporate her beautiful pieces into your big day…

On Wedding Decorations…

No wedding should ever follow someone elses blueprint, so to make your special day totally individual, treat your guests to the same treatment you will yourself. The Simple Candy Cane chairs will brighten up your special venue and personalise your guests experience with simple individuality. Choose a palette that suits your theme and if you are feeling super generous, give them to your guests as the most amazing favours they have ever had!

On Gifting...

For the classic and retrospective couple, the half moon tables will give their new home a sense of everlasting class, bringing with it a grounding history and plenty of good karma!

And of course, for the ultimate in bespoke and alternative wedding gifts, why not gift a consultation with UpStyl&Son to truly personalise their matrimonial haven, all using their existing wares and upstyling their family heirlooms; a true unity of two individual and dynamic lives.

Thank you Alexandra!

Wedding Dresses: Laure de Sagazan

This blog makes no effort to hide my love of everything French. From destinations to interiors, style to language, I am a Francophile through and through, which is why I was so excited to come across this amazing French bridal designer Laure de Sagazan.

Stocked at The Mews Notting Hill, which I am soon to visit, Laure de Sagazan gives vintage-style French lace a contemporary update for the modern bride, with certain pieces that can be worn as separates later down the line.

Not to mention the atmospheric, inspiring imagery...

Wedding Beauty: Dry Skin

I have always had extremely dry skin, which is not something you want to worry about on your wedding day. For a long time now, I have been seeking a remedy for keratosis pilaris (red bumps on the top of your arms) and have tried a lot of different products.

Three great products I have recently tried include…

Kiehl's Gently Exfoliating Body Scrub (comes in Lavender and Grapefruit)

This exfoliating scrub has a great texture and really does get rid of dry skin, removing nasty bumps and smoothing the surface. With water, the scrub quickly forms a lather and you don't need to use much for a noticeable result. I am using the lavender scrub and it smells fresh and uplifting - perfect for a morning shower.

This is an intensely moisturising body butter that smells divine, from their new Vinosource range. I am a huge fan of  Caudalie products and use their Divine Oil regularly (another great product to combat dry skin). This hydrates and smooths the skin and works best straight after showering to lock in the moisture.

This is an unusual choice of moisturiser and I decided to try it having read it as a suggested treatment for KP on a beauty blog. Available at Waitrose, this coconut oil is something I originally used in the kitchen but decided to try it one day as a moisturiser after showering. The results are instant and it smells delicious!

My search still continues for a remedy, but these products are certainly improving the condition of my skin.

Bridal Accessories

I have started a search for beautiful bridal accessories for my wedding and have so far come across a beautiful mix of hairbands, clips and jewellery - always classic silver and white with a vintage, romantic twist. I love 1920s deco but also am drawn to more floral boho-inspired pieces too.

My favourite plaes to browse are Net-a-Porter, Matches, Shopbop and, for more affordable options, Nowseen.

Wedding Tips: The Tiffany App

We are currently creating my engagement ring with a London-based jeweller (more to follow!), but I've been seeking inspiration from everywhere I can during the design process.

I recently came across this brilliant app on the Tiffany website. Not only does it allow you to sift through different styles of rings but you can 'try it on' by hovering the photo over your ring finger. This really helps when deciding on size, style and shape.

A must for all brides-to-be who are choosing their engagement ring.

Wedding dresses: Rubicon

I adore these beautiful shots of NY-based wedding dress brand Rubicon. Named after a narrow river in north east Italy, where it is believed Julius Caesar led his troops beginning his invasion of Rome in 49 BC. For the founder Lee Anne Grove, crossing the Rubicon signifies committing to one's decisions to the point of no return. What a bold and powerful sentiment…

Healthy Living: Roots and Bulbs

When it comes to living healthily, juice is something that is relatively new to me.

An easy way to get your 'Five a Day' in one fell swoop, juice is a great on-the-go breakfast and feels extra good after a morning work out.

Health brand and organic juice company Roots & Bulbs opened earlier this year in Marylebone. The shop sells green juices varying in sweetness, smoothies filled with super-food ingredients for nutritious and tasty liquid snacks - simple, honest and fulfilling healthy foods.

Full interview on VOGUE.COM

Back To Our Roots

Sarah Cadji (the founder of London’s newest, healthy takeaway, Roots & Bulbs) is on a mission to revolutionise how and what we eat on a daily basis. Here’s to more greens and goodness in London.

What does healthy mean to Roots & Bulbs?
Healthy for us means using the best organic ingredients that make tasty and fulfilling juices, smoothies and food, so that our customers can enjoy them on the go. It also means buying food that is uncomplicated, accessible and feels cool!

What motivated you to start Roots & Bulbs?
The reason I feel so passionate about it is because I have seen my life completely change by the food choices I have made. This gave me a deep inspiration to create a ripple effect for others that work hard and have very little time to cook, juice or make smoothies. The fact that there was nothing in London that I could call “home food" pushed me over the edge and I started working on this project two years ago.

What sets Roots & Bulbs apart from what’s out there?
We offer our customers the combination of two things that we feel are different to anywhere else. The fact that we make incredibly healthy organic juices, smoothies and food combined with the convenience of getting it on the go, is what we think customers will appreciate.

Tell me about Roots & Bulbs food?
For our food we have ensured that every meal we offer is complete, in that it contains protein, fibre, complex carbohydrates, antioxidants and essential fats. By delivering this whole package we believe that our food offers the very best of food groups and nutrients. They have been thoughtfully designed to deliver energy, flavour, satisfaction, nutrients and, most importantly, pleasure. We have a whole team that designs the recipes with our nutritionist Ian Marber, chefs that cook the meals and drivers that deliver it fresh from our kitchen to our shop.

Cabbages & Roses - new flagship store

On Wednesday evening, I attended the launch party for Cabbages & Roses' new flagship store at 121-123 Sydney Street in Chelsea, SW3.

If French country chic with a touch of British eccentricity is your style then you will love the new Cabbages & Roses shop.

The home and fashion shop is joined by an interconnecting door and the shops back onto The Chelsea Gardener and Bumpkin, with a gorgeous garden at the back.

As well as homewares, Cabbages & Roses has a gorgeous range of fabrics in soft paisleys, florals, stripes and diagonals.

The bath salts and candles are my favourite, all in beautiful white French chemist style packaging.

The fashion shop has a range of gorgeous Breton tees, slouchy knitwear, smart tailoring and tweeds for the colder months - all in a perfect palette of pretty pastels, rich navy, crisp white and stormy greys.

Also on offer in the fashion store are products from gorgeous handmade Swedish bath and beauty brand L:a Bruket and shoe polish from British leather shoe brand Grenson.

The shop opening coincides with the launch of Christina Strutt's new book, Living Life Beautifully, available to buy on Amazon. I thoroughly recommend it.
